If corneal astigmatism (= astigmatism) of 1 dioptre or more is present before cataract surgery, it can be corrected using a specially manufactured intraocular lens. Therefore, in addition to the usual pre-operative measurements of the eyes with the IOLMaster, a corneal topography is performed. The power of the toric intraocular lens is then calculated and the lens is ordered from the manufacturer.
At the hospital, a modern operating microscope with an integrated tracking system is used, enabling precise alignment of the lens at the end of surgery. Prof. Findl has been involved in the development of this system (Callisto by Zeiss) since 2011, long before it became available on the market. Today, this system has become the gold standard for precise toric lens alignment and is used in leading cataract centres worldwide.
In recent years, Prof. Findl has conducted numerous clinical studies on toric intraocular lenses and published internationally. He regularly gives lectures and courses on toric intraocular lenses.
