Long-standing Surgical Experience

Surgical Volume and Quality

A surgeon’s experience largely depends on the total number of operations he or she has performed. In addition, the current surgical volume is an important factor for maintaining surgical quality. Other relevant quality indicators include the success rate and the frequency of complications.

To help patients make an informed decision when choosing their surgeon, Prof. Findl openly provides his surgical numbers. These figures are derived from the hospital information systems of his previous institutions: Hanusch Hospital KIS (ORBIS, Dedalus), Evangelisches Krankenhaus, Moorfields e-Patient, and AKH-KIS.

Surgical Quality

Prof. Findl performs a higher proportion of cataract surgeries in eyes with increased risk due to pre-existing ocular conditions (31% compared to 12% in the European average). Despite this, the rate of major complications in cataract surgery in his cases was four times lower than the European or Austrian average.

This result is based on the analysis of more than 3,500 consecutive cataract operations performed by Prof. Findl, which are continuously and automatically uploaded to the international registry EUREQUO (see table).
